Health Care Provider: Your blood pressure is 159/96. Did you take your meds today?

Patient: I'm on vacation!

My Vets are told to come into clinic fasting (for labs) and they all arrive about 15-30 mmHg systolic above their baseline. Invariably they tell me that they did not take their meds that morning because they are told to come fasting. Many of them have 3 hour drives to come to clinic.

As we move towards only qday medications this can make our lives difficult.

I have told them to take their medicine with water except diabetes pills.

Many now monitor their BP's at home and call me with a running tally on occasion.
