The Phenomenon of Phantom Pages

Out of curiosity, has anyone else experienced the sensation of a pager going off when they weren't wearing one?

Yes.

I don't know what is more disturbing: when I feel the phantom pager vibrating against my hip or when I hear the phantom pager beeping.

My internship coupled with the call I took as a cardiology fellow, I think, scarred me for life.

I get it quite often, especially when I am on service.

The worst for me is when I get it, off service, and am not wearing my pager.

Hey, it happens all the time.

Researchers think it's because pagers, when left on for the inevitably long periods of time that they are, eventually sprout nerves that penetrate into the body. Hence when you think you're free of your pager...you're not.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Yes.

Mostly when I actually have none. The phantom bleeping is very disturbing when it wakes me up on a night off.
