"This life-threatening case of purpura fulminans resulted from a systemic Neisseria infection. Neisseria causes many types of infection, most commonly gonorrhea and meningitis. This hematological emergency involves both skin necrosis and disseminated intravascular coagulation, and can progress rapidly into multi-organ failure.
