750 #women are affected by obstetric #fistula in #Burundi each year. These are injuries of the birth canal and most often the result of prolonged, obstructed labour. They cause incontinence, which often leads to social #stigma. #MSF has opened a specific centre for the treatment of these women. We also aim to raise awareness of the condition within the country through medical staff training and a helpline. Of the estimated 30,000 to 130,000 women who develop a new fistula every year, only a fraction of them have access to surgery. #IWD #IWD2015 ©Matteo Bianchi Fasani, 2014” By doctorswithoutborders on Instagram.
