“"Beginning some time this afternoon, travelers passing through Grand Central Terminal will be able to set their watches and make their trains with the help of the old familiar golden clock,” @nytimes reported on the front page in March 1954. A few weeks earlier, the four-faced timekeeper had been sent away for repairs in Brooklyn for the first time in 41 years. Upkeep, @nytimes had reported, would include having “its four faces cleaned, its hands manicured and its internal works rejuvenated.” The clock had been acting so strangely that @grandcentralnyc staff had been known to throw a brown paper bag over it “when it became eccentric.” This photo, by staff photographer Neal Boenzi, came from the @nytimes archives, known as the “morgue.” #tbt #grandcentral" By nytimes on Instagram.
