“@nasa staff celebrated with family and friends on Tuesday night after a message from #NewHorizons made it to Mission Control right on schedule. The message confirmed that the spacecraft had performed its scientific tasks on its much-anticipated Pluto #flyby. New Horizons had been out of contact for almost 22 hours as it took pictures and collected measurements of #Pluto and its five moons. @zachgibson5 photographed the celebrations, which concluded a decade and a half of dreams and effort. Today, the craft will begin sending back a trove of data, including sharper images of Pluto. At 10 times the resolution of the image @nasa posted on Tuesday, the new images will transform what has been known only as a fuzzy dot for 85 years into a richly textured world.” By nytimes on Instagram.
