“Players from Fannie Lou Hamer Freedom High School in the #Bronx gathered at midcourt before a game in January. Their coach, Marc Skelton, uses a tough, cerebral style that helped guide the #basketball team through pain and triumph as it pursued a city basketball title this year. One of the most successful public school coaches in New York City, Coach Skelton digs deep into the psyches of his players to the point that some talk of him as being akin to a father. In a poor and working-class corner of the #SouthBronx, Skelton’s teams have amassed a 100 percent graduation rate and a formidable winning tradition. @heislerphoto documented the team throughout the season, attending a number of their games. @nytimessports will share more of his photos from the series.” By nytimes on Instagram.
