“Surf pictures are usually about motion. But @jstersurf, who has spent the last nine years making large-format #tintype photos of #surfers on beaches all over the world, is out to capture stillness. Shooting with a big, old-fashioned camera draws people in, she said, and encourages them to participate. “There’s a little bit of spectacle and performance involved in what I’m doing because I’m working in public. I’m kind of under observation at all times,” @jstersurf said. “It’s this curious combination of artistry, technique, puppet show and performance, all on the beach.” Which, it turns out, is a lot like surfing itself.
