“A vigil on Tuesday in Far Rockaway, Queens, for NeShawn Plummer, a 16-year-old who was shot in the head as he stood with a group of friends late on Sunday. Three years ago, his brother Shawn, 17, was killed as a bystander struck in a wild hail of bullets. Detectives believe that both killings were the results of retaliatory violence over smaller offenses. Although the boys’ mother, Sharon Plummer — a rock of the neighborhood who helped deliver aid after Hurricane Sandy — moved to a quiet part of Brooklyn after the death of her first son, NeShawn returned most days over the summer to see his friends. On Tuesday, families watched the vigil from balconies; teenagers arrived on bikes; and young girls, relatives of the family, held candles and wept. The boys were good children, neighbors and the police said, known for their laughter and BMX bicycle tricks. Photo by @andrewrenneisenphoto.” By nytimes on Instagram.
