“After stopping for lunch, we climb up into the mountains and see planes buzzing overhead and bombed-out fuel stations. We stop in another MSF-supported hospital where we’ve opened an emergency room. When the market was bombed a few days ago, the windows were blown out. The plane we heard buzzing overhead soon after bombed a school 300 metres away. Five patients arrived in our emergency room, including a 10-year-old boy. I treated the boy, who has a broken arm and shrapnel in his abdomen, and sent him in the ambulance to a surgical hospital 90 minutes away.
Before we leave for the final leg to Saada city, we freshen up the giant MSF logos painted on the hospital roof, to ensure the planes know we are there.
