"When investigators entered this apartment in north-central Queens last July, they found the body of a man named George Bell in the living room. George had lived alone. Inside his apartment, he died alone.

Each year around 50,000 people die in New York. "A much tinier number die alone in unwatched struggles," writes the @nytimes reporter N. R. Kleinfeld. "No one collects their bodies.
