"Just before her wedding day, 15-year-old B. was abducted by a distant relative. By the time the police located B., she had been raped repeatedly over the course of weeks. The man was apprehended, but he and his family blackmailed B. to withdraw the case. B. is just one of dozens of rape victims in India whose story the photographer @smitashrm has chosen to tell. She has traveled widely across India to photograph victims and their families, as well as record their testimonies. "They are shamed and victimized for life," said @smitashrm, who herself was molested as a teenager by one of her professors. "I want to give them a voice and start a discussion. We have to talk about this and we have to come up with a solution." Follow @smitashrm and visit the link in our profile to see more of her photos. #lensblog" By nytimes on Instagram.
