""If you whistle at them, they'll come down and cut off your head." When the writer @peterkujawinski visited the #NorthwestTerritories, a number of people recounted their parents' warnings about the #auroraborealis. In this photo by @csmphotos, the aurora, or #NorthernLights, illuminates the sky above the ice road to Tuktoyaktuk, a remote town in Canada's Northwest Territories. The ice road, which is only open for a third of the year, will soon be replaced by a more permanent road. "This far north," @peterkujawinski writes, "roads are magic. As one melts into the water, another rises across the permafrost to take its place." Follow along this #nytweekender as we join @csmphotos and @peterkujawinski on a #roadtrip through the Northwest Territories, a vast expanse almost 3 times the size of California."
