"In recent weeks, several private wells near the old ChemFab plant in North Bennington, Vermont, have tested positive for an industrial chemical that has been linked to cancer, thyroid disease and serious complications during pregnancy. Now, as the State of Vermont samples 185 wells in the village, North Bennington is the latest in a growing list of Northeastern communities unsettled by a contaminated-water scare.
