"On #InternationalWomensDay, we dug into the archives and found this 1936 picture of Amelia Earhart perched atop the nose of her "flying laboratory." Earlier that year, @nytimes ran an article about plans to purchase the Lockheed Electra, "in which Amelia Earhart, first woman to fly the Atlantic, will hop here and there around the world." It was the following February that the pilot announced her plans to circle the globe. We'll share more #womenshistory photos from the @nytimes #archives later this month." By nytimes on Instagram.
