"An old dormitory where Marie found shelter. The 20-year-old Armenian woman has been married twice. She said she divorced her 1st husband because he beat her. Her 2nd husband was in prison and she was taking care of her children alone when she met the photographer Anahit Hayrapetyan. A member of @4.plus, a collective of Armenian women photographers, Anahit has been recording the testimonies of women in Armenia who were victims of domestic violence. Sometimes she was too late, though, and had to photograph funerals.
This weekend, the @nytimes #lensblog and @cunyjschool are sponsoring #nyportfolio16, an annual portfolio review that provides photographers the opportunity to get their work seen and celebrated. This #nytweekender, we'll be sharing more photos from participants at #nyportfolio16. Visit the link in our profile to see more photos by Anahit Hayrapetyan." By nytimes on Instagram.
