""As an artist, I'm intrigued by the juxtaposition of strength and power with beauty and fragility," photographer @neillatham told the #LensBlog. His photos of racehorses, like Kitten's Joy, pictured here, are shot at rare proximity and at all hours. @neillatham slept in the groom dorms at Saratoga Race Course and camped in a tent in Kentucky. The rare proximity to famous horses let him capture the behavioral and attitudinal flourishes of his subjects, including their mix of pride and arrogance. His goal, in the end, was to capture "pure essence." Photos from @neillatham's "American Thoroughbred" will be on display at @stevenkashergallery in New York beginning on June 9.
